The Nigerian advertising industry should honour the memory of late Chief Olu Adekoya by reviving the Forum for Advertising Practitioners, which was his brainchild. It aimed to create a favourable atmosphere for advertising practitioners of all grades registered by APCON to meet on a social and professional platform for meaningful interactions.

Do you still want to come to UK? written by Yusuf Danesi
Do not be shocked that your M.Sc degree means nothing to the employers here; worse still, your almost 20 years experience does not count! Most employers do not even know what HSMP (Highly Skilled Migrant Programme) means!

PECULIAR CHALLENGES TO CORPORATE CONSOLIDATION AND GOVERNANCE IN CONTEMPORARY TIMES: INTEGRATED MARKETING COMMUNICATION SOLUTIONS written by Yusuf Danesi
Consolidation poses challenges arising from integration of processes, IT and cultures; and most importantly the emergence of mega companies in the post-consolidation era is bound to task the skills and competencies of Boards and Managements in improving shareholder values and balance some against stakeholder interests in a competitive environment.

OUTDOOR ADVERTISING IN LAGOS MEGACITY written by Yusuf Danesi
A mega city is a new kind of market that has new requirements, but also, given its big size, offers a lot of opportunities to whomever, recognises it and has the skills and patience to pursue it. The market opportunities of Lagos can be enhanced by aggregating its several markets, and by devising new appropriate technologies.

Attention: Sir-Madam... I'd Like to Scam You written by Quinn Kiet
If the target responds to the letter, the scammer usually replies with thanks and asks for personal information. Often this includes a bank account number, but this is not, as some people think, how the target is scammed.

SYNERGY OF EDUCATION AND LEARNING FOR EFFECTIVE DELIVERY OF THE MILLENIUM DEVELOPMENT GOALS IN NIGERIA written by david oluwole
The topic of discussion is a bit complex and dicey because several researches continue unabated on the three constructs. Our in-depth analysis of them will grant us the opportunity to seek for their implication for individuals in the context of the millenium development goals (MDGs).

They Can Sugar Coat it All They want, It's Still a Scam written by Jeffrey Solochek
A lot of the recent so called opportunities out there in my eyes are just chain letter scams of the 21st century. They may say you are getting all this so called product but you have to compare apples to apples and oranges to oranges. I can say my house is worth over a million dollars but if all the houses in my neighborhood are only selling for one hundred thousand dollars I can say my house is worth a lot more all I want but the reality is it is only worth a lot less.

Sustainability Assignment written by Jeff Stats
Countries all over the world, regardless of their economic development, are striving to achieve and maintain successful operation of the economic, socio-cultural and political stability and integrity within its boundaries. This goal is undoubtedly the mail prospect of countries’ officials and its people in most developed and prosperous countries.

Characteristics Of Nigerian Art written by Maigida africanarts
Art is an amazing way to get to know a previously unknown culture. It often reflects cultural diversity as well as religious and ethnic origin. There are many unique societies throughout the globe and art is a way to bring them all a little closer to home.

Your Brand in the Sign Age written by uwamai igein
What should we, signages practitioners be offering brands? From good illustrations and handcrafted lettering to the most advanced multi-colour computer graphics, of course. Our digital printers should be able to output graphics up to 3.2 metres in width and complement latest High Resolution printers. The Nigerian consumer does not see much of small run labels through to full vehicle body wraps and PVC billboards skins

Winning Votes @ Any Cost: The Role of Negative Political Advertising written by Yusuf Danesi
I do not know if you saw an advertorial that went too far- its headline was “One of the Lagos State Governorship Candidates is known to be a Drug Baron.” The body copy urged volunteers with information to contact a couple of GSM numbers! If you seek my opinion I think whoever placed the advertorial should be talking to the NDLEA right now since he knows so much! An ad that also almost got me sweating was a triangular concept sponsored by Soul Lifters Political Organisation, Kaduna- it asked us not to vote for homosexuality (yandaudu), corruption (riba) and disloyalty (munafiki).

Is the Consumer truly King? written by Yusuf Danesi
I topped up my mobile phone in Nigeria, made a call and sent an SMS. The next day I tried sending a text message but I could not. I checked my balance and everything was gone! A colleague gave me a customer service line to call but I never got through though I loved the jazz music in the background. Surprisingly, the network’s image maker, my friend of 16 years, for once, did not reply my SMS. Same thing had happened last December as I arrived in Nigeria from the UK, removed my Vodafone SIM and inserted my local card so as to alert my waiting family at the airport of my presence. There was no credit on my phone- but I loaded it three weeks earlier as I was departing Nigeria!

ETHICAL ISSUES IN DRUG ADVERTISING written by Yusuf Danesi
While Nigerian orthodox medicine practitioners refrain from engaging mass-media advertising for ethical drugs, it is the opposite with trado-medical practitioners, who have the answers to diabetes, asthma, HIV/AIDS, hypertension, cancer, epilepsy, kidney disorder, etc. According to Akunyili, the “inordinate quest for material wealth is partly responsible for the little premium, which such herbal practitioners and their collaborators in media and advertising firms place on human life.”

Touching the Sore Spots written by Yusuf Danesi
I decided to travel by Virgin Nigeria to London last December primarily because I considered its association with Virgin Atlantic. Also I could not imagine Virgin Nigeria without thinking about Richard Branson, who is so passionately committed to the Virgin brand such that it resonates across the Virgin Group of companies, which include international music mega-stores, air travel, mobile, financial, retail, music, Internet, drinks, rail, hotels and leisure, with about 200 companies in over 30 countries.

A Dose of Virgin Nigeria written by Yusuf Danesi
A trip scheduled for 5 p.m. on a Sunday, saw us checking in from 1 p.m. and nobody said anything about an impending delay. At the check-in lounge I bumped into a former post-graduate school mate who was also traveling to London but with her family and I engaged the husband in a discussion. Ironically it was from him that I learnt that our flight would not take off until 8.30 p.m. despite personally approaching the check-in staff more than thrice earlier to know what was responsible for the delay. All I could get from them was: “we shall soon leave.” There was no announcement at all to explain the problem and I also noticed that affected passengers behaved like they were used to delays.

Lessons for America from Nigeria - Archbishop Stands against Homosexuality written by Rev Michael Bresciani Bresciani
While America gleefully watches the antics and blatant portrayals of the gay life in films and on TV the leader of some 17 million Anglicans in Nigeria says, no way.

Would You Rather Vote for Coca-Cola? written by Yusuf Danesi
But political ads so far are not many as most aspirants prefer to use crown posters instead. This could be due to many reasons and I will be surprised if cost is not one. Apart from a couple of candidates, politicians are avoiding TV despite the fact that it is not difficult to buy and media independents know it quite well. We also want to see more political ads aimed at boosting parties as a whole. This is without prejudice to the suitability of candidates on such party platforms. I again recognize the fact that Nigerians usually vote on party basis not caring much about who the down ticket candidates are.

Do you still listen to Radio? written by Yusuf Danesi
I remember way back in 1986/87 during my youth service days in Radio Nigeria2, 45 Martins Street, Lagos, how the medium was extremely powerful. We were the only FM radio station in Lagos and the best in the country. It was therefore a wonderful experience for me as my name was mentioned almost daily on air! Listening to radio was simply a must for me.

The Cons of Online Aution Sites Like Ebay written by Jeffrey Solochek
Sites like Ebay can be a great place to make extra money. But what about the many disadvantages of a site like Ebay. In this article I tell you the truth of what to look out for.

Your MBA is a Worthless Degree! written by Yusuf Danesi
My heart bleeds each time I recall National Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission (NUC) Professor Peter Okebukola’s recent disclosure that Nigeria would have to wait till 2009 before its universities could produce quality graduates (The Punch July 7, 2006). I am distraught that Nigeria could not even make the top 6,000 universities list in the world, according to Webometrics Ranking of World Universities (Spain). Ranked 6,304th the University of Ibadan is the highest-ranked Nigerian university on the list

Easy Money .not. written by Jeffrey Solochek
Thought today would be just the same as every other morning but when I checked my Inbox I found out that I had won 2 international lotteries that I had no idea that I had ever entered and the family for some dead prince in Nigeria wants me to act as the next of kin and they will let me keep 10% of his net worth. With all this money coming in I am going to be living on easy street and never have to work again.

Magic Lines of Uli Art Style written by Chidi Okoye
Uli symbols may be said to show graphically how the organic forms grow outwards from the core of those elements to point, line, triangle, square and circle that are universal to the concentric circle at the periphery, which contains reflections of everyday world as seen by the artists. Just as the inner circle reflects the uncommon reality or ritual reality of the cultural existence, so the outer circle is in contact with the human and ecological reality, which it expresses.

Between Marketing and Branding written by Yusuf Danesi
Marketers easily forget that growth will come through customer retention, innovation and the identification of growth markets. It is time we replaced old marketing with new marketing that is holistic, technology-enabled and strategic, enabling companies to reach their target customers’ activities, lifestyle, and social space more effectively.

Email scam-examples written by John Moore Moore
Here you have examples of a Nigerian letter scam. These are sent from several countries, by email and postal mail. The elements are similar, although the details are different. Don't fall for it.
