Aurora University was founded in Mendota, Illinois in the year 1893 as Mendota seminary. In the beginning it was an institution for training lay workers and ministers in Advent Christian Church. Within a short span of time its name was changed to Mendota College that provides a full collegiate curriculum with a liberal base in arts. Aurora University is an independent, private and comprehensive institution. It strength exceeds over 4,000 students.
