Raksha Bandhan is celebrated in India and many parts of the world on Shravan Purnima every year. Brothers and sisters get together along with their families and sisters tie a knot of protection called rakhi to their brothers. In a wider ambit, friends, cousins and other members of the extended family take part in this occasion as well. Thus, the meaning of the festival is not confined strictly between brothers and sisters, but includes individuals with brotherly feelings as well.
