In both situations, the easiest way to “get my people back in line” was to shout, “Marine! Maintain! Remember who you are!”
Now that I am retired, it seems to me that this practice, this overt reminder of “who we are” is sorely needed – especially when we put others or even worse, ourselves down (both in our deeds and in our thoughts).
