Over the years there were many attempts to turn the farm into a private mining facility, but finally in 1972 the state of Arkansas purchased the property and turned it into the Crater of Diamonds State Park. These quarts crystals range in size from microscopic to over eight inches long and three to four inches wide and in rare cases even larger.
