Studies prove that more than 90 percent of all adolescents and about 25 percent of all adults are affected by acne at some time. Acne appears to males and females all over the world, no matter their nationality.

The most efficient ways to fight acne include a mixture of prevention and better skincare.
Here we offer you some of the methods you can take into account in preventing and treating acne:

1. Exercise
Daily exercise can help combat acne by diminishing negative stress levels that can appear when you are depressed or you have a negative self-esteem. But remember to avoid wearing tight lycra and nylon exercise clothes. These synthetic clothes that keep your body trapped offer a perfect environment for bacteria to develop. You must wear loose outfits made of cotton or natural blends, and maintain your sports gear and equipment clean.

2. Safe Cosmetics
You should use products which are labeled "noncomedogenic" or "oil-free” if you want to avoid pore-blocking and skin irritations that can lead to acne. Choose "hypo-allergenic" perfumes and cosmetics to avoid allergic second effects and skin irritation. Coal tar derivatives, carmine and heavy cream in make-up products can determine second effects.
Shining facial colors can contain an exfoliating mineral called mica that can produce skin irritations and block pores. Apply a lip gloss with a matte finish if you want to avoid pore-blocking. The more the shimmer, the more you have a comedogenic content and the more your pores can block.

3. Healthy Diet
Reports prove that diet does not cause or treat acne. Still, you must be aware that what is best for your body is also best for your skin. So you should get enough vitamins, minerals and supplements that have been found on the market and recommended to prevent and help fight acne breakouts. These include
§Vitamin A or Retinol (Be careful because high doses are toxic)
§Vitamin B Complex
§Vitamin C
§Vitamin E
§L-Carnitine
§Zinc

A good quality multivitamin product will surely contain all the prescribed vitamins and minerals that you need to help you in preventing acne. Another important fact is that you should drink enough fluids during a day and eat good, healthy food.

3. Hormonal Treatment
Hormones (or a lack of them) within later years - especially for women - can produce acne. One recent report proved that almost 50 percent of women have acne problems, when we speak about hormonal acne, of course, just the week before their menstruation.
Usually the most common treatment includes topical retinoids, oral antibiotics and Benzoyl Peroxide for teen years. For adults we have oral contraceptives or hormonal birth control pills and hormonal replacement therapy (HRT) that might be useful for women, in relation with systemic or topical treatments, over-the-counter products and medications.

4. Healthy Skin Regimen
You should remember not to intensely scrub or over-wash, because this can lead to possible skin irritation or possible over creation of oil to add what's washed off, blocking pores during this process. Apply products with mild exfoliation ingredients and avoid products that have alcohol.

5. Acne Products
Some of the more common products on the market that can help in preventing acne include:
§Benzoyl Peroxide
§Proactiv® Solution
§Salicylic Acid
§Retinoids
§Antibiotics
§Oral Contraceptives
§Anti-Androgens
§Isotretinoin (Accutane)

6. Shaving
Shaving is in fact an extraordinary method of exfoliating or taking off dead skin to help in preventing and spreading of acne by removing all the remains that block pores. And for simple acne situations already in process, shaving can help remove whiteheads and blackheads from the face. Avoid shaving parts that are sore or infected. Apply also a shaving cream for sensitive skin.

You should shave using a sharp blade. Use gentle gestures instead of hard pressure and just continue in a mild manner. A single-edged blade is recommended instead of a twin-blade razor. Also even though electric razors might not shave so close to the skin, they help in preventing acne and other skin irritations.

7. Stress
Stress refers to external and internal factors. External ones are those that affects your skin's ability to repair, such as oily make-up and too much sun. Internal factors such as anxiety, fear, low self-esteem, depression and a variety of other emotions, can produce chemical reactions inside your body that can lead to acne flare-ups and other skin breakouts.

To fight internal factors and prevent acne problems, you should get enough rest and sleep. Do your best and maintain regular program. Make a list of "Things that Calm You” and read it in stressful times, such as watching a movie, resting, listening to music, taking a walk, going out for lunch, practicing sports etc.
