In a commitment from Major League Baseball, the Clubs and the players will give young people participating in baseball as well as softball more opportunities to develop, this by way of the Baseball Tomorrow Fund. The grant awarded to Think Detroit is in conjunction with the national baseball equipment collection program supported by the Baseball Tomorrow Fund.
Baseball Tomorrow Fund grants will be used to purchase new equipment for the 2006 season.
2005 is the first year the Baseball Tomorrow Fund has worked together with Major League Baseball Clubs in an effort to expand their existing equipment collection programs. Participating Clubs collect new and second-hand equipment prior to select home games at their ballparks. Then Club pick out a local youth baseball or softball organization they want to donate the collected material to.
The organization had since 1997 provided positive after-school activities, encouraging youth and bringing families closer together.
