As an employer, you know that your employees are supposed to do their best work for you and that they are supposed to do so with a good attitude and with no expectations of any more reward than the paychecks that they take home every other week. As a person, you also know that this is extremely unlikely, and that those who put in 100% all of the time without complaint are extremely rare and are much appreciated by their employers in the best cases, or sadly overlooked and likely to be lost in the worst.
Knowing this, you also know that it is important to recognize those who are working their hardest for you and to reward them for the hard work that they put in. Employees like this are in high demand, and actually retaining them can be difficult because they know their own value and are not likely to put in such hard work for an employer who does not entirely appreciate them and what they give to the company.
Because of the rarity and high value of employees like this, it is important to always show your appreciation of their work, and one way to do that is with corporate gifts. This does not mean that you have to give them a new gift every week, although you should be thanking them regularly as they come through for you on various projects, however when your star employees (or any employees) complete a difficult project or otherwise perform exceptionally, it is a great idea to recognize this hard work.
The best way would be with time off if it is possible, even if only one paid afternoon, however even if you cannot afford to have them out of the office, you can surely afford a corporate gift to show them how much you value their contributions to your success and their hard work on behalf of your business.
Corporate gifts can be anything from crystal wine glasses to paperweights to leather bound planners or a nice desk clock. They should be chosen as statements of appreciation, and a good rule of thumb is to only hand out gifts that you would like to get yourself from an appreciative boss or from someone that you do business with. You are trying to convey genuine thanks, and that is best done with a good product.
Losing a great employee is as easy as ignoring their hard work and dedication to your company, so ensuring their continuing loyalty should be as easy as recognizing their hard work and treating them well while they are in your building. You will be much more appreciated by the employee him- or her- self, and an employee who thinks highly of their boss is much less likely to resent their own hard work or their long hours. Corporate gifts are the perfect way to make an event of great performance and to applaud your hardest workers with a token of how much you appreciate them and the work that they do.
