Aired late in the night, BET Uncut was one of the most popular adult themed shows on television. The show garnered a cult following as the main premise of the videos shown were associated with over sexualized images of women and cheap lyrics.The shows agenda was to show music videos who’s taste complemented the lower standard of decency.. BET Uncut was often time broadcast in the early morning due its TV-MA raiting..Aside from showing lewd videos, BET Unct also served as a medium for lesser known artists to get their music out to the music buying public..

The BET Uncut television show design was to broadcast low budgeted rap music videos. With the lack of a budget, many artists chose to use semi nude women dancing in their videos as their main selling point. This was a powerful tool for many hip hop artists who were not signed to a major label to get their product out to the masses. Major label artists such as Chingy, 50 Cent and Nelly used BET Uncut as a controversial and cheap wayto promote their new album by creating videos exclusively for BET Uncut.

The show BET Uncut had its share of infamous moments and stars. Little known artists such as Joker the Bailbondsman, Mighty Casey and Precha are just a few of the artists who became popular because of the BET Uncut show. These memorable figures became show favorites based on their video or the content of the song. The cheesier the video, the more people wanted to see it. Many times the quality of the songs and accompanying video were so bad that it was more comedic than anything of true quality.
The BET Uncut show was not without its share of controversy. There were many people who felt that the show was degrading to women and showed them in various situations that perpetuated the disrespect of women. The controversy surrounding the show reached its peak in the year 2003, when rap star Nelly released the number one BET Uncut video ever, Tip Drill. The Tip Drill video was created with the intention for it to be aired on Uncut. The video achieved this and far expected the intention it was originally created for

BET Uncut was cancelled in 2006, ending what many claimed to be BET’s most popular and controversial show. Many people believed that executives at Viacom felt the pressure that was being applied by the different groups that called for the end of such a terrible show in their eyes. Despite being cancelled, the infamous videos live on YouTube and various websites that laud the music and the videos that came from the institution called BET Uncut.
