So you have a new pet and are starting to think about how you plan to successfully accomplish dog house training, well good for you! House training is probably one of the most important things you can teach your pet if you want them to truly be a companion dog.

WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE? - CRATE OR HOUSE - TRAINING
They're NOT the same thing! House training is teaching the specific behavior of going outside to use the bathroom to your pet. Crate training is the most successful METHOD of teaching this behavior.

This training method using crate training makes it much easier for your pet to associate what you want them to do with your positive response. Here are a number of Important Tips for Successful dog house training

TIP #1
Dogs use voice inflection and body language to understand much of your communication. (another reason why yelling and threatening your dog is not good.) Most dogs have an understood vocabulary of about 20-25 words, so don't mix them up using different words to mean the same thing.

TIP#2
Consistent behavior is Important. That's YOUR behavior not your dogs. Both puppies and adult dogs respond much more positively to a consistent schedule than to a hit and miss one. Know your pups schedule and use it to your advantage. Do they get up and prefer to eat right away? If so, right after eating, take them outside to urinate.

Eating presses on the bladder and causes them to want to go. Take your puppy outside and let them go so you can give them loads of praise. This is important because you want your puppy to remember outside-bathroom-and your happiness all in one thought.

TIP#3
Never yell or show anger toward your puppy. While modern dogs are related to wild pack animals, they also have a need to be close with their human pack. Hitting with a newspaper, yelling in anger, or acting in a threatening manner toward your puppy will result in them becoming jumpy and cautious around you. It will NOT help with your potty training efforts however.

TIP#4
Watch your pet when inside your home. Penning your puppy isn't the same as potty training. Your puppy needs to be confined to their crate whenever you cannot actively watch them. It only takes a few seconds for an accident to happen so you need keep a watchful eye to limit accidents.

Of course, lugging a heavy wire cage or bulky hard plastic travel crate into your room each night is not going to be fun. While the work of dog house training is being done, it's necessary to keep accidents to a minimum even during the night.

If you are serious about successfully potty training your Dog, you need a lightweight, portable and easy to use doggie crate.
