Noah TristerMemphis, U.S. (AP) - Don King sat two seats to Jermain Taylor's left at the postfight news conference _ and spoke for everyone in Cory Spinks' camp."You got away, JT!" Spinks' vociferous promoter said. Taylor defended his middleweight championship with another close victory, outpointing Spinks in a split decision. Taylor had winning scores of 117-111 and 115-113 from two of the judges, and the third had it 117-111 for Spinks. As the 12th round ended, Spinks raised his arms in triumph, and he began dancing around the ring when it was over. That was premature. "I don't know what to say. It was highway robbery," Spinks said. "I thought I gave a great boxing display." That was a bit of a stretch. In fact, the Taylor-Spinks fight was overshadowed a bit by Kelly Pavlik's decisive victory over Edison Miranda in the final undercard bout. Taylor defended his title for the fourth time, but this win did little to satisfy his critics. Spinks and Taylor spent most of the early going sizing up each other. Spinks is 2 1/2 inches shorter than the 6-foot Taylor, but he did a good job staying out of the champion's reach. "Who's going to look good with Cory Spinks?" said Emanuel Steward, Taylor's trainer. "All you want to do is get the win and move on. Cory Spinks was jabbing, and before the punch got out, he's running back already."
