The Jack Russell Terrier which is also known as the Parson Jack Russell Terrier, is a cheerful and hyper dog that loves to play and loves attention. They are also very smart, loyal and curious. They were also bred for hunting. The least scent can send them chasing off after prey. They are very energetic and need to be supervised when around kids. For this reason they do not make good house dogs unless they have a fenced in yard to play in or can be taken on frequent walks as they have a need for more exercise. Their natural instinct is to hunt. Thus why they need to be socialized and trained well. They also need to be supervised around small dogs, cats etc.
They make good family pets and get along with older children who know how to pet them. Smaller children who do not know how to treat a Jack Russell Terrier should be supervised and taught the proper way to treat the Jack Russell Terrier. At home they love lots of affection and are very loyal and playful. They may even demand your attention.
