The competitions which offer chances to win grand prizes are really to appreciate at their highest value when you hear the story of a lucky winner.
Recently the “Win a car” competition has been launched by a Swindon newspaper, run in conjunction with Pebley Beach Showroom in Eldene.
Vicky Smith, a 19-year old hairdresser from Upper Stratton, won the jackpot.
She works in Rootz hair salon located in Woodshaw Mead, Wootton Bassett. The prise, a brand-new Hyundai Amica is worthing ₤6,995. Vicky is the first person from Swindon to own a 20007-registered car.
Vicky had thanked her granddad, George Coward, aged 71, who entered the competition on his granddaughter's behalf. He saw Vicky so many times struggling with her old car, a M-Reg Nissan Micra.
“My car is basically dying - it doesn't like the cold. All winter I've had to warm it up in the mornings and my mum has had to keep ringing my friend for a lift so I can get into work.”
But now, Vicky will be the one to give her friends a lift on various occasions. Also, Vicky plans to take on one of her first journeys, her little cousins, Joshua, 10, and Mitchell, 2.
Vicky said: "So grampy saw the competition in the paper and he decided he would enter it to see if he could win the car for me."
George got Vicky’s Auntie, Amanda McCarthy to help download and complete the registration form.
“I thought I'd better enter the competition to see if I could win her a new one - you've got to be in it to win it.
………It is a lovely car and it is just right for her, it's brilliant," said Vicky’s grandfather.
The new car is a five door hatchback with features such as a secret space under the passenger seat, ABS, electronic brake force distribution, a six-speaker RDS stereo with CD player, alloy wheels and air conditioning system.
There were 2,300 entries into the competition and Vicky's name was drawn at random.
