When people tell you that you have to check out Guadalupe Street, they are referring to an area on Guadalupe between 21st and 25th street that is next to the campus of the University of Texas. The area is also called "The Drag" and is home to many unique stores and restaurants. It lives up to its reputation and is a place that you definitely must check out. You can spend an hour there or an entire afternoon. So what will you find there? You can find stores selling unique art, furniture, collectibles, vintage clothing and more. You will find bookstores, tattoo parlors and weird hole in the wall accessory stores. In addition to the stores there are also usually local artist setup outside selling their goods. Austin is home to one of the highest per capita concentrations of artists and it shows here. Its a great place to find that unique Christmas or birthday gift or a great place to just walk around and hang out.
If you would like to visit "The Drag" on Guadalupe Street you can find it between 2000-2700 Guadalupe Street. The best time to go is usually just before Christmas. That is when you will find the highest concentration of artists. No matter when you go though you are sure to have a good time so hit "The Drag" and have fun.
