The Hueco Tanks State Historic Site is a park located just a short drive to the northeast of the city of El Paso. It gets its name from the large rock basins called "huecos" that have supplied water to the area for hundreds of years. It has become a popular destination for rock climbers and has been called a world class bouldering destination. Making it interesting for climbers is the unique wildlife that is attracted to the huecos and the pictographs that are scattered throughout the park. The pictographs have been painted by the native inhabitants over the last 10,000 years. You do not have to be a rock climber to want to visit the park however because there are also plenty of hiking trails available . In fact there are over 6.5 miles worth of trails that you can navigate. you can also camp at the site. There are 20 back in sites and there are also showers available to campers. So as you can see, there are a number of activities available to you at the Huecos Tanks State historic Site. Go for a visit and you will not regret it.
