Valentines Day is Getting Boring
I’m so tired of giving the same gift and getting no loving in return. What’s a guy to do?

Okay, let me be the first to say: I’m so confused about Valentines Day. Is it a silver year or diamond year? Paper or plastic? Can’t I just give condoms? Wait a minute; I’m off base. I’m talking anniversaries, not V-Day.

Whatever happened to just waking up, rolling over and offering a kiss?
When did brushing my teeth become an issue?

I don’t get this whole Valentines Day thing. Not at all, not one bit.
First of all, I can’t afford it:

Chocolates: $10
Flowers: $30
(Delivery: $5 – plus tip)
Dinner: $60. Wine? Add another $20-50 to taste.
Movie? Optional, but at this point maybe 2 hours where we don’t have to talk might be a good thing.

The truth is, I’m at a loss. I don’t want to give another cliché gift or just give my partner whatever everyone else is giving. I want to go wild, without spending a fortune.

And so I turn toward a direction that I never thought I would: virtual worlds.

I recently pulled a stint in Second Life. I walked around for a few hours but found it incredibly hard to find anyone to speak to for more than a few seconds. I thought that I might try and buy and island or something (apparently you can buy virtual land there) but it was more expensive than the cliché Valentines Day package. Actually, I came dangerously close to cheating on my partner with some blond (would it have counted? We weren’t ‘really’ touching) but the whole thing came to an abrupt end when clothes came off and we realized neither of us had any genitals. Apparently virtual privates cost money there too – about the same as a real-world dildo, so what’s the point?

Upset and unsure about virtual appendages, I kept searching the Net and found Weblo.com. Weblo is another kind of virtual world but not a 3D kind.
You can build pages (or profiles) on the stuff you register. They link to your own profile and you start a collection of what the community calls, virtual assets. Someone registered the Eiffel Tower – how romantic. I don’t speak French but I do it well.

Would you believe that I bought my partner’s favorite restaurant and I even found the resort in Spain that we liked so much… and all for $2!!!
Ha! Now that’s the kind of bargain I’m looking for this Valentines Day.
I’m soooo sweet. So, what now? Well, I put videos, pictures and a description of our trip on the resort page! That’ll be a hit.

Weblo sells virtual replicas – actually mini-profiles – of anything in the world. Our hometown was $5 and so, after buying it, my partner automatically became the mayor. Grand total? $8 and I’m still on top of my budget.

I bought the city of Coquitlam, BC, the restaurant where we met, Milestone's Bar & Grill, and our favorite vacation resort in Spain: Vera Playa Resort.

So, this year, before I get told to brush my teeth, I’ll have something that should keep us both in bed…
