The New Year brings with it many benefits, from the initial exhilaration of trying to keep your New Year's resolutions to the anticipation of what the coming twelve months has in store for you. In the US, however, the first few months of every year take on an altogether new meaning: it witnesses three of the biggest awards events of the season - the Grammys, the Golden Globes and the Oscars.

Music fans in particular will appreciate the excitement created by the Grammy Awards. Originally known as the Gramophone Awards, the Grammy Awards are presented by the Recording Academy for outstanding achievements in the recording industry - and 2007 will see it into its 49th year of existence. The Grammys currently award over 108 categories of music, spanning over 30 genres - including pop, rap, rock and gospel; recognised voting members currently include the likes of Jon Bon Jovi, Prince and Paul Simon, among a host of others.

The Grammys have long provided an excellent way to spend a day celebrity-spotting in Los Angeles. Pay a visit to LA on the day of the Grammys and you'll most likely see a host of stunning and important celebs, including the likes of Beyonce, Justin Timberlake, Mary J. Blige and Madonna. This year's Grammy nominations seem to promise even more star-studded potential, with nominations for such stellar figures such as Christina Aguilera, Dixie Chicks, John Mayer and the Red Hot Chilli Peppers. American Idol winner Carrie Underwood has also been nominated, as have a cream of British singers, including James Blunt, K.T. Tunstall, Natasha Beddingfield and Corinne Bailey Rae.

The 2007 Grammys comes just after the Golden Globe Awards and just before the Oscars, so people keen on indulging in a bit of celebrity spotting may find themselves in LA quite a lot at the beginning of the year! However, if you're a dedicated celebrity-spotter and you love awards ceremonies, there's more in store for you as the year ploughs ahead. Why not visit the MTV Europe Music Awards, usually held every November in a different European city, for an award ceremony with a difference? Travelling needn't be expensive either, if you subscribe to a comprehensive hotel rewards scheme, such as Hilton Honors which allows you to accumulate air miles for travel or points for cheaper car rental and rail travel.

So, whether you'd like to visit LA during the Grammys to catch a glimpse of Shakira's shaking hips or head to Europe to see James Blunt perform in his own territory, you won't go wrong if you make the right travel choices.
