Great History
Aurora is the third largest city in Colorado. It was founded by a real estate tycoon by the name of Donald Fletcher who fled the city two years later, leaving its residents with bond payments for water that wasn’t there. The city petitioned for annexation by Denver to save it from its lack of water, but ended up pulling through on its own. It was renamed Aurora (it was originally named after Fletcher) sixteen years after it was founded, and has been called that ever since. It has often been considered a suburb of Denver, but was the fastest growing city in the US during the 1970/80s and is now about half the size of Denver, and is definitely a city in its own right.
Great Sites
Aurora is the home of what used to be Fitzsimmons Army Medical Center, a hospital where US President Dwight D. Eisenhower recovered from a heart attack in 1955. Fitzsimmons Army Medical Center has since been decommissioned and will soon become the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center.
Great Location
Located just east of Denver, Aurora residents have access to all the commodities and amenities of Denver, without actually living there. Denver offers science museums, art museums, parks, theaters, amusement parks, the Denver Broncos and other sports teams, and colleges and universities.
