If you are anything like me, you leave everything to last minute. But that doesn’t have to be the case this holiday year. What this following article will attempt to do is to show you how you can optimize your time to think ahead and take care of those things that some always leave to last minute planning.

The Cooking

Now, obviously, you may need to cook on the day before if not the day of the holiday or event. However, plan out 1-2 weeks earlier a time where you can plan out the ingredients and how much to buy for that holiday. Then, go ahead and actually go to the store and purchase what you need before hand. Trust me when I say that this makes things a whole lot easier when all you need to do at last minute is to lay the table spread..

Or, you can do that the day before as well! Plan out some time early in the morning the day before to lay out all of your place settings and to make sure you have all the incidentals as well. This allows you to run out, the day before, and get what you need.

The Shopping

Rule of thumb: if you can buy your gifts 6 months out of the holiday or birthday, go ahead and do it! You don’t want to be stuck trying to stand in line with everyone else fighting for the last stock item on the floor. Instead, purchase online or purchase locally. The days of driving miles and miles is long over. Now, the task is trying to find the best prices online for your items. You an always use pricewatch.com for electronics, and ebay is always the fan favorite every year as well. Regardless of where you purchase your item from, factor in shipping time and costs as well. Just because you see it online to buy, it doesn’t mean it’s always available. Get to know what the meaning of “backordered” means before you start ordering stuff online. You’ll avoid the head banging hassle later.

Gift Invitations

Not many people take care of the thought to send out gift invitations, but the same holds true for holiday cards. Plan to research and purchase them 3 months prior to the holiday and set them aside to be mailed one week prior to the event. Of course sign and stamp them now, but get ready to mail them later. This will help you to avoid the last minute card worries about whether you mailed one to someone or not.

By utilizing all of these tips, you may avoid the last minute rushing around that always comes at this time of year. But remember, sure you can read the advice, but you have to put it into practice. We can lead you to the water, but you need to drink! Happy holidays
