Kefalonia Greece its reserved his famous name in the destinations of the Ionian Islands and the biggest island of the group. Kefalonia has many wonderful beaches with fine sand and turquoise, bleach-like waters, specific to the island. Others of its many beauties are its picturesque villages, its National Park on its highest mountain (Mount Ainos) on which a rare specie of fir forest grows and terrific landscapes. This section has everything about the island.
There are five regions to Kefalonia, which include, southern Kefalonia, with the major resorts of Lassi and Lourdas, eastern Kefalonia with the popular resorts of Skala and Poros and northern Kefalonia with the historical harbours of Sami, Agia Efimia, Assos and Fiscardo.
In the west there is the little explored Paliki peninsula with the town of Lixouri and the resort of Xi and finally there central Kefalonia and Mount Enos which towers above the whole island and is home to its own unique ecosystem.
This parts of Greece, Kefalonia Island, provides much information: pictures, map, villages, history, museums, excursions, weather and a large range of hotels.
Kefalonia has an area of approximately 690 square kilometers and its the largest of the group of Greek Islands known as the Ionian islands, and the sixth largest of all greek islands,been the more peaceful and scenic holiday. It is rugged and high, with mount Ainos as its backbone,dominating the landscape.
Kefalonia may not have a wealth of ancient ruins and sites, the Castel of St George at Travliata near Argostol and the castle at Assos are worth a visit.
On other parts of the island you'll run into groves filled with olive or orange trees and hillsides studded with grapevines; breathtaking golden beaches and deep coves, rugged rocky shores or visit famous caves.
