If you wish to sell your product in the European markets, then you must know about the CE mark or the CE Certification. As the name suggests, it is a mark that certifies quality. Every country has certain legislations to check for quality of products before they enter the market for consumer safety. In the Europe, this is done by the CE marking. By getting his product labelled as CE certified, the manufacture is simply declaring that his product has met all the prescribed provisions of the European legislation’s given directives. For importers CE marking is important as it makes it easier for their imported goods to enter the European market without further checking or adaptations.

You must be wondering how one goes about getting a CE certification for his products. It is a step by step process that one needs to follow carefully or you can get yourself in a legal mess. You first start with establishing if any of your products is covered under the European Commission’s (EC) Directives. Global Approach Directives and the New Approach Directives are the two types prescribed by the EC. If your product lies outside the scope of these two directives then there is no need for you to try for CE certification.

You must consult the Blue Guide which has all the requirements and criteria for CE certification under the two directives given by the EC. You can either view the guide online on the EC’s website or you can also download it. It is very important to identify the apt directives for your product. You cannot draw rigid rules to categorize your product. It is he most important and the most complex step of getting CE marking. If you are in any kind of doubt, then it is advisable that you take impartial and independent advice. For this you can either access the guidance booklets given by the EC about their directives. These contain the CE marking criteria. If you are in UK then you can also get the printed versions which are available only to UK residents.

Scared by the above procedure? If yes, then you have a better option. Instead of doing all this yourself, you can simply higher a CE marking consultancy to do all this work for you. This will save you a lot of time and energy and also the amount of risk involved is too low as these people are professionals in the field of CE marking. So you can give all your work to them and relax till your product gets CE marked.
