Most of the manufacturers face several problems while trying to get their product EC marked. EC marking is requires to sell your product in the markets across the EU. For getting a product EC marked, manufacturer has to undergo various legal procedures. The manufacturer must first identify the correct European Commission’s directive under which his product is covered. Once identified, he must read the criteria for getting his product CE certified. He must get his product tested for conformity.
The manufacturer may either sign the Declaration of Conformity (DOC) after which a third party tests his product for whether it complies with the directive’s requirements. Or he can get his product tested by the European Lab which declares the product fit for entering the European markets once the tests are cleared. After getting the CE certification, the manufacturer can put the CE label on his product and sell it. The CE label reflects good quality of the product and thus confers the product with being reliable and good for the consumers. Therefore CE label also increases buying of the product by the consumers.
Another common doubt in the minds of the manufacturers is that if the CE label must appear on the packaging of the product, in the product manuals or the other supporting literatures related to the product or not. There are certain guidance rules regarding the requirements prescribed by the EC’s directives for the CE marking. You can read them in the guidance booklets given by the EC itself. It has been seen that in most cases the CE label should be present on the product packaging, but it is always advised that you look for the guidance in case of any exceptions. After all there is no point in taking risk. Whether the label can appear on the packaging or manual must also be found out from the guidance.
In case the CE label must appear on the product packaging or manual, it is important to know about the design of the CE label and its measurements. There are certain rules about the size of the label also. The CE label must not be less than 5mm vertically and the other dimensions should be in proportion to this. In the guidance booklets, the CE label is mostly shown on a grid however this grid is not a part of the marking and is only for the information.
