Invisalign® is a treatment that is effective in correcting many common problems such as overbite, cross bite, wide spaces between teeth, and crowded teeth. Of course, whether or not you are a candidate is something to be discussed with your dentist, but millions of people have been able to use Invisalign® instead of traditional wire braces.

The first step is an appointment in which the dentist will assess your problems. If you are a candidate for the treatment, impressions of teeth will be made. From those impressions, custom, clear plastic aligners will be created. The aligners will be replaced every two to three weeks, depending on your treatment schedule. While the number of aligners is different for each person, it is generally between 20 and 30.

Each aligner is different from the one before and as you progress through the treatment, your smile will slowly change as the Invisalign® treatment works, much in the same way that traditional braces do. Unlike unsightly wire braces, Invisalign® aligners can be worn virtually undetected. For this reason, they tend to fit into the lifestyles of most people more easily than wire braces.

The most obvious benefit is the aligners can be removed for eating and drinking. Patients do need to wear the aligners at all other times. Another benefit is that even while being worn, Invisalign® are far less noticeable than traditional wire braces. Also, any needed adjustments are made to the aligners and are NOT made in your mouth. That means that your visits to the dentist will be a breeze compared to with wire braces.

The average cost of Invisliagn® will usually range between $3,000 and $6,000, though this depends on your individual treatment needs and the provider that you select. Be sure to contact your dentist and discuss this issue in depth so you can get a good price estimate for the treatment.
