However, these may create an imbalance in the pool pH, creating a caustic and unsafe environment for recreation. Other chemicals may have to be added to the pool to bring the pH back within a safe range. These devices may also cause certain health problems. Therefore, gas chlorinators are not often used in residential setups.

Liquid chlorinators – This device is often preferred to gas chlorinators. Liquid chlorine looks and smells like bleach and is created by bubbling pure gas through caustic soda. The results are fast; however, these can wreak havoc with the pH balance of the pool. Moreover, storing chlorine at homes can be dangerous.
