To sell any product in the European community, you are required to get your product CE marked. Let us see why CE marking has become the commercial recognition of the European Union. In today’s global world, almost all the companies are eyeing the foreign markets to enter with their products. But not all are able to accomplish their goals and the reason being the foreign standards. For selling your product in the 27 countries of the European Union, you need to meet their foreign standard which is the CE marking. Once you get your product tested for CE compliance and clear it, your product gets the CE mark and is set to enter the EU markets.

With the CE marking, you can sell your product not only in the EU but also in the countries constituting the EFTA (European Free Trade Association). If your product is not EC marked then it can suffer legal prosecution for breaching the international standard laws. By implementing the CE marking system, the Europe Government has facilitated trade between the member countries as this has removed the various trade barriers. For a manufacturer the CE marking is like a passport to enter the EU markets. Once the product is CE labeled, then it can be sold in any of the member countries of the EU and the EFTA. This eliminates the need to recheck the product for meeting the requirements of the individual member countries.

Most companies are already selling their goods in EU when they suddenly learn that they need their goods to be CE certified or many companies want to expand their business to European countries and so they have to get their products CE certified. They think that it is a hard procedure to get CE marking, but it is not. Therefore one should not get discouraged by this. You can either try yourself for the CE certification or you can appoint a CE marking Consultancy for doing all the legal work for you.

A common mistake that manufacturers make is that they assess the CE marking as a seal for quality. CE marking is actually only concerned with the consumer safety. In this way it also indirectly relates to quality. There are certain safety standards for product laid down in the EC’s directives. The CE marking shows that these standards are met by the product and are absolutely safe for consumer.
