If you are embarking upon the process of designing and printing a booklet, then you want to make sure that your booklet will stay in the hands of your customers. Here are some tips for making sure that your booklet has staying power.

Choose paper weights for durability

When it comes time to get your booklet printed, you will likely find that you have many options at your printer for the types of paper that you can use. While making your decision, think about what your booklet will be used for and how often you will expect someone to read it.

If it is designed to be read once and thrown away, then you can easily choose a lighter and cheaper paperweight. However, if your customers will refer back to the booklet multiple times, then you would want a paper option that is more durable. Consider creating the cover in a heavier paperweight, even cardstock, for added durability. Printing the pages in a heavier paperweight will also allow for the pages to be looked over again and again without showing as much wear and tear.

Think about your binding

Another concern with creating a booklet is deciding how it will be bonded together. Some forms of binding are designed to be permanent, others are designed to be disposable, and others are designed to be flexible enough for you to add and remove pages as necessary.

For example, if you wish to create a booklet that the customer will keep for the next financial quarter, you will want to choose a binding that will hold up to multiple readings without pages coming loose.

On the other hand, if you are creating a booklet for employee policies at your company, you may choose a binding option that allows you to add and subtract pages as policies are changed and updated. If the booklet will be thrown out shortly after being read, then you can choose a less durable binding.

Make your booklet worth keeping

It is not worth spending the time and money designing a booklet if you cannot convince the customer to keep the booklet once they receive it. To do this, you have to give them a reason to keep the booklet after you print it.

For example, you can include valuable information in an easily accessible format. You will find booklets published by insurance companies to be set up this way; for example, your health insurance company may produce a booklet that lists all of the in-network providers.

Another feature that you can include is areas for the reader to make notes, fill in information, or otherwise personalize the booklet. If the customer can add their own notes and information, then they are more likely to hold on to the booklet for future reference.

Lastly, you can add in savings methods for the customer. For instance, if you are advertising a new business, you can include tear-away cards with coupons towards future purposes. You can set different expiration dates to encourage customers to come back for future visits.

The more you do to make your booklet durable, the longer it will stay in the hands of your customers after you print it.
