Boston terrier training does not only mean training a boston terrier to do well in obedience or agility. Boston terrier training must also include housebreaking - one of the most important lessons a pet must learn. While housebreaking seems a challenging task, it is definitely possible to train your boston terrier to do his thing properly. But before attempting to train your dog where and when to eliminate, it is important that you understand his behavior and capabilities.

Puppies have poor bladder and bowel control thus need to relieve themselves frequently. Expect frequent accidents especially during your puppy's first few days at home. Never lose your temper neither punish your dog for it because it is normal. Yo and your puppy will eventually overcome housebreaking as long as you are determined and consistent when it comes to training.

It is common for a puppy to show clues when he needs to potty. These clues include restlessness, sniffing the floor or returning to a previously soiled spot. Upon seeing these clues, you need to take the puppy in the location of your choice. You also need to take your pup out after waking up in the morning, eating or drinking, exercise and before going to bed at night. After he potties, praise him and reward him with his favorite treat or toy. Doing so will give him the idea that it is the location where he is supposed to do his business and he gets reward and attention for doing it. Feeding on a schedule (if possible at the same time of the day) will also help your pup develop regular potty time.

During housebreaking, it is important that you keep an eye to your pet to prevent accidents and to immediately correct him should he attempt to do his business at the wrong place. One or two weeks of uninterrupted time to focus on the puppy - particularly housebreaking would be enough.

If you catch your puppy in the act of going potty at the wrong place, give a firm no and take him to the specified spot to finish his business. When accident happens, never punish your puppy for it. Hitting or rubbing his nose on his mess won't do him no good. It will only frighten or confuse the puppy. Instead, simply ignore your boston terrier and clean up the mess thoroughly to get rid of the smell.

Training a boston terrier to eliminate properly requires hard work, consistency and determination. If you believe in your dog and are passionate enough to train him, there is no way you will fail in this boston terrier training.
