Here is some good news: the odds of getting into a car accident are rare. As long as you follow safe driving strategies, you can avoid a number of calamities. However, there are a many unsafe drivers out there that can cause an accident. While many built-in safety features can prevent scores of injuries, injuries do occur. What are the most common injuries? Here are a few of the common physical injuries suffered from car accidents.

Head injuries and neck injuries are among the most frequent. The “minor” injuries could be whiplash (neck ligament tears) or blunt trauma impact to the head. The latter often results from banging one’s head into a steering wheel. The severity of these injuries can vary depending upon how serious the car accident is. In some instances, the injuries may be minor. In other instances, they could even lead to fatalities.

Limb fractures and broken bones are also frequent when a car accident occurs. Again, this is the result of the impact of the body into the steering wheel, dashboard, or windshield. The body can only hand so much stress and the impact of such an accident will certainly provide enormous weight and impactful trauma onto the body.

Back and vertebrae injuries can result from impact and compression in a car accident. For many people, these injuries are among the most frightening because they can cause permanent paralysis. This is because many of the injuries are directly impacted on the spine.

Internal organ injuries are often overlooked even though they are extremely serious. A lacerated liver, kidney, or spleen can threaten one’s life and will require constant lifetime medical attention. Clearly, such injuries create the potential for a seriously diminished life expectancy.

Leg and knee injuries can occur due to the reflex action of tightening the legs to brace oneself. This can lead to an even worse injuries upon impact but since the action is a reflexive one the injuries are next to impossible to avoid.
