You’ve considered cosmetic dentistry, and really want to have a little work performed, but you find the costs intimidating. True, the costs associated with cosmetic dentistry can be substantial, so having a plan to manage these costs is important. Even if you have a dental insurance plan they probably won’t help you pay for cosmetic dentistry expenses. The exception would be if the costs are associated with specific procedures, then they may cover a few of the costs.

The first step toward managing your cosmetic dentistry expenses is to have an examination, and obtain an estimate of costs. This way you know how much it is going to cost you right up front so there are no surprises. Once you know what the total cost is going to be for your cosmetic procedures, then you can determine if you can afford it, or not. Even if options become available to finance the expense, you need to be able to pay a deposit, and meet the monthly payments.

Many more cosmetic dentists are offering various payment plans to help patients pay for the expense of cosmetic dentistry. The best way to find out which options are specifically available is to ask. They may have a brochure in the waiting room explaining all the options that are currently available. Most offices these days will accept cash, check and major credit cards for the payment of cosmetic procedures.

More often then not, the dentist is not going to provide any more then payment options. The financing options that may be available will generally be provided by a bank, finance, or credit card company, not associated with the dentist. Cosmetic dentists don’t want to be in the banking and collections business, as they believe it is a conflict of interest. But they will refer their patients to a company that provides financing for their cosmetic dentistry costs.

If you can’t pay cash then one of the best options for spreading out the cost of cosmetic dentistry is to apply for a loan with your local bank or credit union. This is where you will probably get the best interest rate, and terms. If this is not an option then applying to one of the finance companies is also an option. But, you need to know up front that interest rates are going to be higher, and although this option is convenient, it can also be more expensive in the long-term.
