iPod Nano and other Portable Multimedia Players’ features 2

                                                                                         

This time round I’m pitting iPod Nano against powerful players… lets see how iPod Nano performs against some powerful players. :)

Here’s some of the features list for your reference -

iPod Nano – No one need an intro to when it comes to iPods but here goes… the music quality is awesome and screen is also good but it has no FM radio and a smudge prone back. iPod Nano costs Rs 8,800. It has 4 GB and 8 GB capacity. A two inch LCD with 262K colors. iPod Nano weighs 49 grams and it also uses a Li-ion battery. It lacks both FM radio and voice recording (I’m taking about iPod Nano 3G). Audio formats supported are MP3, AAC, AIFF and WAV. Photo viewing and video playback is possible and the video formats supported are H.264, MOV, MP4 and MPEG-4. It has 22 preset equalizer modes but they are not customizable. It has all the built-in features like calendar, contacts, stopwatch and alarm. Bundled headphone quality is just OK so if you want to enjoy your iPod Nano better buy a new one. Actual battery life is 19.2 hours.

iRiver X20 – iRiver X20 is a great performer and has got lots of features too… it’s controls are a little tacky. It has 2 GB, 4 GB and 8 GB capacity. A 2.2 inch LCD with 262K colors. It looks really great and is an attention grabber. It uses a Li-ion batter to power itself up. This PMP is vey light – it weighs just 15 grams. Memory is expandable with Micro SD card. It has both FM radio and voice recording. Audio formats supported are MP3, WMA, OGG and ASF. It supports both photo viewing and video playback and the video formats supported are – MPEG – 1/2/4. Number of preset equalizer modes are 5 and they are customizable. It can also be used as a portable drive. It does not have the built-in features like calendar, contacts, stopwatch and alarm. I found the display and movie performance to be very good. Battery life is upto 14.3 hours.

Creative Zen – This is one portable multimedia player in which I had difficulty in finding faults. It has a nice big screen, decent music quality and superb video performance. It has a 2.5 inch LCD display with 16.7 million colors (no wonder the video performance is superb). The device is powered by a Li-ion battery and the device weighs 65 grams. It’s firmware is upgradeable. Memory cannot be expanded. It has both FM radio and voice recording. Audio formats supported are MP3, WMA, AAC5 (.m4a), WAV (ADPCM), audible 2, 3, 4 (quite a lot huh?). It supports both photo viewing and video playback and the video formats supported are – MJPEG, WAV9, MPEG-4-SP4, DivX4 4/5 and XviD4 (This is the only device that supports this lot of video formats out of the box). Number of preset equalizer modes are eight and they are customizable. It has calendar and stopwatch only… contacts and alarm are missing. As I said earlier display and video performance is great. Bundled headphone quality is just OK.. I’d recommend buying a new one. Battery life is 14.5 hours.

Obviously…. Creative Zen is the better all-rounder Portable multimedia player here. :-)
