Although summer is seen as the most popular time for weddings, winter is fast becoming first choice for many couples seeking that winter wonderland setting. When it comes to winter wedding invitations it is a nice idea to design them around a winter theme, such as snow, ice or even a festive feel if your wedding is close to Christmas.

When thinking about your invitations you need to remember that they will be the first look your guests will have of how your wedding will be themed or styled or both. So it is important that you design them to fit with your wedding theme and the style of your wedding be it formal or casual, religious or civil.

You may have already chosen a theme or at the very least your wedding colors, but here are some ideas for popular winter wedding schemes and wedding invitations:
Winter Wonderland

Colors for this scheme would typically be ice blue, white and silver. When thinking about your invitations consider pearlescent or shimmer cards in white or pale blue which will add to the icy theme.
For your design graphics, motifs or embellishments think about snowflakes, snow covered trees, crystal elements and die cuts in mirrored card. If you are having your invitations professionally printed ask about having them foil printed in silver which is lovely for highlighting small details such as motifs or monograms.

Festive Flavor

Traditional festive colors are red, green and white, although these days many other colors are used for Christmas decorations etc. Pearlescent shades of pink, blue and lilac are popular along with white, silver and gold.

Personally I think for this scheme to work it is less about the colors and more about the design elements. Snowflakes again are a popular choice along with Christmas tree baubles, Christmas trees (undecorated), candy canes and gingerbread men. I would steer away from using pictures of Santa, sleighs and Christmas puddings as your guests may think they are Christmas cards!

Winter Warmer

If you want to add some luxury to your wedding then choose a scheme that incorporates burgundy, forest green, gold or bronze. Add to that patterns such as tartan in these same colors and you have the recipe for a scheme that feels cozy and warm. This scheme is perfect for a traditional, formal wedding, but you could tone it down if your wedding is more casual.

Flat cards printed with a gold edge in red ink look wonderful when trimmed with a tartan ribbon bow. For something more contemporary try stylish graphics of winter berries or bare tree branches.
If you are finding it difficult to bring together all the details you need for your wedding reception then use your wedding invitations as a guide. Take the graphic details, colors, patterns and embellishments from them and coordinate them into your table settings, wedding favors and center pieces. You should even incorporate them into your wedding cake.
