Hang tags should always be tough. Since they are always at the forefront of your labeling scheme for products, hang tag printing and design should always be aimed to last for a long time against physical stresses. If you are only printing flimsy paper hang tags, then it is time to upgrade them to stronger and better versions. In this article, I will share with you four simple upgrades that should make all the difference.
1. Stronger materials – The first line of upgrades that you should consider is the paper material itself. The most obvious choice you have for this option is to go for paper materials that are thicker and stronger. Just ask your hang tag printer of the paper stock options you have and the different thicknesses that are available. Try to aim for those paper stocks that are usually for postcards to get the best and thickest kind of paper.
If you want to go beyond paper stocks though, you can also print your hang tags with stronger materials such as plastic, wood, or even some metals. While it will be more expensive, hang tags using these kinds of materials will be at the toughest status as they can be, and can quite last a long time even if there are buckling, scratching and bending involved.
2. Better inks – You can also improve and upgrade the printing inks for your hang tags. So instead of the usual digital printer inks, you can request to use tougher and longer lasting inks that have special coatings in them. Yes, some CMYK inks can actually resist being smudged and are water resistant. This involves a special printing techniques that can dry them early and make them almost permanent. Just ask your hang tag printer on how to avail of this type of ink.
3. Improved strings and couplings – Color hang tags are also very reliant on their strings and couplings. Since hang tags need to be attached to products to “label”them, the attachment of the hang tags is a crucial point of consideration. So make sure you provide good coupling upgrades such as metal and strong fiber couplings. Try to stay away from twine and flimsy yarns since they can easily break and get lost.
4. Special features - Finally, one of the best upgrades for hang tag printing is to add in some special design features to make them better and more memorable. So for example, adding three dimensional effects such as embossing and adding glitters and metallic effects can improve a hang tag's appearance quite well. These features should be what you want, to get the best impact from your color hang tags.
So if you have not added these great upgrades to your hang tag printing process yet, it might be time to do so now. You should always make your hang tags as tough and as good as possible since it is where part of the strength of your label resides.
