Everybody knows what a radio is? Radio is a fascinating medium and it was introduced to the world by Guglielmo Marconi, who proved to the world that radio was a international communications medium. Radio is an electromagnetic spectrum and it is used for many purposes. In olden days radios were used to communicate with the ships, and airplanes used radios to keep in touch with the ground.

Two way radio is defined as "a radio that can both transmit and receive (a transceiver), unlike a broadcast receiver which only receives content'. The first truly mobile two way radio was developed by Senior constable Frederick William Downie of the Victorian Police in 1923 in Australia. Two way radios are mobile, hand-held or stationary. A walkie-talkie is a hand-held two way radio. Similarly mobiles or cellular phones are also examples of two way radios. Today almost every person owns a mobile phone which is used more as a necessity than a luxury. It is the most popular communication tool for personal, commercial and military purposes.

Two way radios are widely available and very easy to use and you can enjoy crystal clear communications, even from a long distance. When mobile phones are becoming more and more expensive, walkie-talkies are a great way to keep in touch, without spending money. Two way radios were of massive size in the 50's, but today they are available in lightweight, and they are also not very expensive and are very efficient. There are two common bands used for two way radios, and they are Family Radio Service (FRS) and General Mobile Radio Service (GMRS). All two way radios contain microphones and speakers.

Two Way Radios were once used by Military and Law enforcement personals, but today it is used by every person, even school going children. Whether for business purposes or personal use, two way radios are a great way to communicate.
