Test planning is the basic process of planning test execution schedules and executing them as and when the development team sends a module to the test group for testing. During test planning it is imperative to include all requirements specified by clients. Test cases are created in order to detect bugs and errors in the software product that is being developed. Each test case, along with its various parameters, is recorded in testing documentation sheets and the result is tracked and updated.

Test case execution is the process of executing test scripts in a logical sequence with specific input data (as specified by clients). The results are monitored and the output is recorded in test sheets. When the required output is obtained, the particular test case is said to be successfully executed.

The complete test cycle can now be executed by test automation tools. Though there are many test tools available in the market, it is important to choose ones that are scalable to the organization’s testing needs. Also, it must be able to efficiently address all test management activities like documentation, metrics etc.

Test documentation is a vital part of the test management process. It is basically the activity of recording every testing activity carried out by tools and test teams. It is an important document that needs to be preserved safely until the software product is released; sometimes even after the project goes live.

The test document helps track the source of defects and can be used to prevent major product failures. It is an important document that needs to be preserved safely until the software product is released; sometimes even after the project goes live. There are many testing tools that provide test documentation and test resources management features. These tools are beneficial to all testing services in improving the operational efficiency of the software product.

Test reporting features like, test throughput, defects ratio, bug count, monthly reports, module wise reports etc., also need to be provided by testing tools. The reports derived from test statistics can aid the test lead to understand the current testing potential of the teams.

Use an efficient testing automation tool for test cases management, test documentation and reporting, for speedy product development.
