Every dog owner aware of just how smart the dog at home is will soon wonder: exactly how much can I teach my dog? And of course, there is no exact way to answer this, since a dog can be taught as much as the owner wants. But if you are interested about the basic commands you ought to teach, then the following are musts for your Cockapoo Training (or for any breed for that matter).

1. Down - A dog lying flat on its stomach is useful when visitors drop by and you want them to have a look at your dog, or if you need the dog to wait for a few minutes. Besides, this position puts the dog at better ease than sitting.

2. Heel - Heel is a good command in case you have big dogs. This command helps the dog to walk nicely, instead of bad manners like pulling at the lead, bounding ahead, or lagging behind.

3. Leave It - Obviously, a dog as curious and intelligent as the cockapoo will not pass up an interesting-looking object. "Leave it" gets the dog to not touch objects.

4. Drop It - As helpful as Leave It, this command makes the dog drop whatever it is it is holding in its mouth.

5. Off - Through this command, the dog lays off staying on the furniture or the bed, or jumping on people.

6. Stay - Sometimes your dog's safety could depend on using this command. Used together with either Sit or Down, this command prevents the dog from charging other dogs or from running down the street.

7. OK - Most trainers find it convenient to have a “release word” for their dog. It releases your dog from another command and lets your dog go on its way, i.e. continue walking or to eat a treat placed before it.

8. Sit - Not only useful but also easy to teach, Sit comes in handy in situations where it can get too excited. It is actually a taxing posture for a dog, so it is best not applied for extended periods of time.

9. Come - Said to be the most critical of all Cockapoo training commands, "Come" enables you to recall your dog just in case it bolts out of your front door, leash or fenced yard.

10. No - This correction word makes the dog stop whatever it is doing. Your pup needs to know that you associate No with undesirable manners.
