As a county, Suffolk has so much to offer for those looking to explore both the countryside with wide open arable fields, quaint country villages and medieval market towns as well as the stunning coastal walks to be had along the pebbled shoreline from Lowestoft to Felixstowe.

Suffolk also has a rich heritage that can be discovered in many of its historic attractions and heritage sites including:- Framlingham Castle, Leiston Abbey, Sutton Hoo, Kentwell Hall, Palace House (Newmarket) and Otley Hall to mention just a few.

For those that are looking to get active during their break, Suffolk is a county best explored on foot, by bicycle or on horseback. With over 5,000km of way-marked paths, two areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty, long distance footpaths and national cycle routes, there’s a wealth of opportunities to enjoy the great outdoors.

You can also visit the picture box market towns and villages of Long Melford, Framlingham and Hadleigh, Bury St Edmunds with its close associations with The Magna Carta and Lavenham.

Lavenham, probably one of the most popular towns in Suffolk, is a market town steeped in history and is one of the best preserved medieval villages in the UK, boasting over 300 listed timber framed buildings, many of them protected by English Heritage. A unique village created over 750 years ago by Henry III and given it’s market status, Lavenham’s fortune was built on the success of it’s thriving wool trade, and as far back as the 15th century was one of the richest towns in the country, thanks to the famous Lavenham Blues cloth. During this time of great wealth the church of St.Peter and St. Paul was built at the top of the hill above Lavenham along with the Guildhall to be found in the centre of Lavenham.

If you are looking for a central base in Lavenham then the Swan Hotel, right on the high street, is the perfect location. Dating back to the 15th Century, the Swan Hotel is a quintessential English country hotel and restaurant. Ancient oak beams and inglenook fireplaces blend beautifully with rich furnishings and fabrics to create the perfect ambiance for rest and relaxation. The historic Old Bar boasts a wonderful collection of memorabilia, including a wall signed by British and American airmen stationed at Lavenham Airfield during World War II.

So if you are looking for a central hotel to explore the great county of Suffolk, the Swan Hotel in Lavenham is not only a great location but are promoting some great weekend and midweek offers.
