Because of their intelligence and working breed characteristics, Boxer dog training may not be as easy as training other dog breeds with gentler personality. With Boxer dogs, you have to be very consistent, determined and you should know how to deal with their slight-stubborn personality.

Know that Boxer dogs respond well to positive reinforcement training thus you must understand that training based on physical punishment will never help you come up with a well-mannered dog you have been dreaming of. Your responsibility as dog owner is not limited only to feeding or grooming your dog. Training is as important too! Through dog training, you are teaching your dog to obey commands that make him pleasant be around people, strangers and other animals.

That being said, you will definitely need effective training tips, methods and tools to make training easy at the same time enjoyable both for you and your dog. One of the most popular training tools is collar. Dog training collars come in different types, color and size. So before you head to the nearest pet supply store, you have to determine what type of collar works best for your canine companion.

Usually, owners choose collar that looks good around the neck of his pet. However, this should not be the primary concern because appearance is only next to safety and use.

Different types of collars to choose from include:

- chain slip collars
- metal prong collars
- martingale collars
- head collars
- flat collar
- buckle collar
- prong collar
- electronic collar
- flea collar

Though there exist various types of collars, they all have the same purpose - to help control and prevent a dog from doing what he is not supposed to do.

Dog collar may be made of nylon, metal, cotton or leather. For Boxer training, a collar made of nylon, metal and leather is ideal because these materials are strong and can reliably control your dog regardless of the size. However, if your Boxer dog does have sensitive skin, a collar made of cotton is advised. You just have to make sure that the material is of high quality so as to withstand your Boxer's working breed characteristics.
