There is a lot of discussion over which is better in a car, cloth interiors or leather interiors. Cloth is less expensive but harder to clean. Cloth won't stick to your skin when it is hot, or freeze your bum when its cold. It does hold odors and is more subject to fading, cigarette burns and other damage than leather. It is also more likely to stain. Cloth doesn't require regular maintenance, leather does.
Leather interiors come standard in many luxury cars along with window tinting. Leather is a luxurious material with a lovely smell. It doesn't hold odors like cloth does. Leather doesn't stain or burn as easily as cloth. If you want your leather to stay looking new though, you will need to break out the saddle soap fairly regularly. Dust and oils from your skin can get into the pores of leather and make it look dirty and worn.
Leather is also subject to cracking if it is not maintained on a regular basis. Cloth will tear but it will not crack. Window tinting with UV protection can help protect leather interiors from some of the damage that can occur from sun exposure, but it still needs regular care.
The choice between leather interiors or cloth interiors really comes down to lifestyle. Leather interiors do add value to your car, but they also cost more initially than cloth. If you don't want to spend the time to maintain your car, you may be better off with cloth. Leather does clean easier than cloth does, but it needs to be cleaned regularly. If you are picky about the condition of your car's interior, leather may be the only choice for you.
If your car came with a cloth interior, you can have it changed to leather. Use a specialty auto shop that works with leather and can fit your leather interior expertly. This may be a bit pricey, but if you really want the luxury of leather it's the best way to get it.
If you are going to go to the expense of installing a leather interior in your car, it is worth it to have window tinting done at the same time. UV protection in window tinting will keep your leather interior looking new and prevent sun damage that can cause cracking. Window tinting also adds that touch of luxury to the exterior of your car and boosts its value.
Like leather interiors, window tinting should be done by professionals. Your tinting will not look luxurious if it gets bubbled or scratched. Professionals know how to apply tinting film and will usually offer a warranty. The manufacturers warranty offered by film manufacturers is usually voided if the film is not professionally applied. Look for an established firm to apply your window tinting, since you don't want to have a problem and find your “professional” has disappeared.
Window tinting and leather interiors add value and comfort to cars. Adding these custom items to your car increases its value and your comfort.
