There are a few dental care problems that people of all ages face, although some are more common for tweens and teens. Common dental care problems in teens can end up causing permanent damage to the teeth which will cause unsightly imperfections unless proper dental hygiene is followed. Some common dental care problems in teens cause parents concern for their child’s dental health and also cause social issues from lack of hygiene.

Tooth decay is a common problem for children and teens that have busy schedules and other things n their mind may be especially susceptible to tooth decay because they do not brush as often as they should. Tooth decay and gum disease can cause long lasting health issues for a person so it is important that teens practice good dental care. If proper dental hygiene is taught to children early in life they should be able to take good care of their teeth as long as they remember to brush and floss regularly. Cavities are caused by tooth decay and are common dental care problems in teens who forget to brush and floss regularly. Gum disease is also common when teens forget to brush and floss and can cause other health issues as well.

Bad breath also known as halitosis is also a common dental care problem in teens. Improper dental care and hygiene can lead to bad breath because bacteria, plaque, and other substances build up in the mouth. Bad breath is not only an indicator of other health problems it can also cause social issues for teens. Most teens try their best to avoid anything that causes them social stress so parents may need to simply remind their teens to brush regularly to avoid bad breath.

Every teen is afraid of having to have braces and unfortunately misaligned teeth are a common problem in teens. As permanent teeth grow in many teens find that their teeth do not grow in straight and are crooked, overlap, or are misaligned. Misaligned teeth can cause self consciousness, cause bite problems that affect speech and chewing, and other dental concerns.
