Selling articles on eBay is very easy – once you know how it's done! If you have never tried to sell anything on eBay before, it can all look a bit confusing, but it is easier if you get a little help. So, if you are wondering "how do I sell an item on eBay", here is your answer in 7 easy steps.
1. Sign up for eBay membership
Anybody can become an eBay seller, just by signing up for membership. All you need to do is go to the eBay website, click on "register", and fill in the form. You will be asked to provide the usual contact details (name, address, phone, email), and you will need to pick a user name and password.
2. Research the price
You will need to set an opening price for the item you want to sell on eBay; while the opening bid price should be the very least you would be prepared to accept for your item, there would be no point in setting the figure too high. Check and see what other people are asking as a starting bid for similar items.
3. Take a photograph
Take a good clear photo of your item with a digital camera and transfer it to your computer so that it is ready to upload to the eBay website.
4. Measure the item
If the exact dimensions of the article you want to sell are important (for example if you are selling a garment) take accurate measurements and make sure you include them in your description of the item on the eBay auction.
5. Weigh your auction goods
Carefully weigh the item you want to sell together with its packaging and then calculate the postage costs. It is very important not to guess at postage costs; if the package is a few grams heavier than your estimate, it could mean the difference between you making a profit and making a loss.
6. Write a description of your article
If you are unsure about how to describe the item you have for sale, do some searches on eBay and see how other people describe similar articles. It is vital that your description is as accurate as possible and 100% honest. If the item you are selling has a flaw, you must mention it and describe it as exactly as you are able.
7. Be alert
Log in to your eBay account at least once per day to see if any potential buyers have sent you a message with a query you need to answer. Maintaining good communication with your potential buyers is essential to earning a good reputation as an eBay seller.
