Life coaching can take on many forms. A life coach can guide you through your relationships, family life, or career change. Some people consider a life coach to be similar to a therapist. However, you go to the former when you know what it is that you want to achieve but don’t yet know how to achieve it. This is especially true in executive coaching.

Generally the firm or the human resources department within the firm will contract an executive coach to work one on one with its top level management. This is actually a very important part honing a great management team. When one is on a lower rung of the company’s ladder, there is plenty of feedback and advice available. When one is near the top, if there is any feedback at all, it is generally sporadic and off the cuff. An executive coach provides one on one feedback and guidance sessions to help train executives to accept new challenges or hone their skills on a task with which they are already familiar.

Management which opts for executive coaching has recognized a skill on which they should work; perhaps interpersonal-working relationships or subordinate motivation are the best. Their life coach then meets with them on a weekly or more basis to discuss appropriate techniques and review the progress that the manager has made. Over the time, the executive should find him or her more motivated to take on the company’s challenges and invigorated by the feedback and suggestions of their life coach.
