Diwali or the festival of lights is incomplete without lamps and these lamps are aptly known as Diwali Diyas. The various mythological aspects of Diwali are closely associated with the rows of lamps. The night of Diwali is the darkest in the year. It is thus apt to decorate the house and surroundings with bright Diwali Diyas to welcome the Gods.

There are varied beliefs associated with Diwali Diyas and one of them is that it is a way of welcoming Lord Ram as he returned from his exile. In recent times, the traditional Diwali diyas have been replaced by electric lights, yet the innate charm of Diwali is hidden in the exquisite lamps. Diwali Diyas symbolize the victory of good over evil and is pertinent to welcoming divine power into the house. Goddess Laxmi is believed to enter the house with the best decoration and grandest row of lights.

The Art of Making Diwali Diyas:

Care should be taken to not allow little ones to play with fire. Every year, there is a distinct aura that accompanies the celebrations and over a period of time; certain rituals have become indispensable to Diwali.
