So, you've invited all your nearest and dearest over for a party, perhaps it's a BBQ, or maybe it's a birthday do. The thing is, at a certain time of the night, everyone's talking about a trip to the off license for some more booze, or maybe a few tummies are rumbling. You wanted your guests to relax and not need to lift a finger; you thought you'd bought enough Party Supplies to last all night!

You can avoid embarrassing shortages of party supplies such as food, beer and even paper plates if you plan ahead and have plenty of information before you throw your bash. In this article we're going to talk about party supplies and tell you how to make sure you've got enough to go round!

Plan The Guest List

Most of us don't even take numbers in to account when we are planning a party. However, it's basic logic to have enough party supplies for the number of people you're inviting. Instead of estimating roughly how many guests will come try to think of the real people who will attend and how many additional guests they're likely to bring with them.

It's always better to have more booze and food than you need rather than too little because it can be used up during other parties in the coming months. The same goes for most sorts of fun party supplies from plastic cups to coloured balloons.

As well as having a good idea of the number of guests and adding a few on top for contingency, you can also plan to have enough party supplies by requesting guests to bring some along too. If you are worried about booze shortages request that guests 'bring a bottle' or if you're more concerned about hungry mouths ask people to bring some food along too. Most people don't mind and see this as customary these days anyway!

Create Contingency

When we talk about creating contingency what we really mean is stocking up on all your Party Supplies ahead of time and saving the leftovers for other parties. By bulk buying dried snacks and booze you can store it for any future events. Another way to feed hungry mouths late in the evening is to set aside a bit of money to order pizza which is quick, requires no fuss or knives and forks and is a real crowd pleaser.

To save money on your alcoholic Party Supplies which can often cost a lot, you can bulk buy boxed wine or cases from online retailers and the same goes for beer and spirits too! Budget stores like Lidl sell good quality imported spirits at very low prices, supermarket chains sell big crates of beer cheaply (especially over Summer) and lots of wine clubs have introductory sign up offers which include free cases.

There's also another sort of contingency plan worth mentioning and that involves preparing for mishaps. Try to have someone on hand who knows some basic first aid, - even if that's you. Additionally, you might want to invite a few t-total friends over to make sure that you have at least a few sober people around. Plenty of accidents happen at house parties and A & E visits don't add any glamour to a celebration!

Clever Purchasing

It's definitely better to overstock on party supplies than under stock because a few months later you'll probably have another party planned and be ready to get some more wine, beer or napkins. If you are weak willed and want to avoid drinking them on weeknights store them somewhere like a garage or shed (hidden in boxes and out of sight) so that you don't get tempted to drink them.

For big house parties it's best to buy cheap toilet roll, napkins, paper plates and anything else which is disposable, go for the cheapest brands and simplest designs because they'll only be useful for 2 or 3 hours and then they'll be in the bin. Paying a lot of money for things which get flushed down the toilet and jammed in the dustbin isn't worth it!

Finally, when you're thinking about entertainment for the night: ask guests for suggestions on music, food and things to see and do in advance to see if they have any ideas or know anyone who could help out for free or cheaply.

If you use a social networking website such as face book you can create an event to invite people and also request suggestions on there. You never know, a friend of a friend could be a street magician, wonderful acoustic musician or a great poker dealer and that could make your party even more special.
