The v model or the waterfall lifecycle model is common QA methodology that are is by software project teams across the globe. The waterfall model is very well structured and has a neat documentation process to its credit. This enables multiple projects to run parallel.
There are many testing tools that can be used with this QA methodology. But they need to be integrated along with the process flow to enable testing teams to handle multiple testing releases in parallel. The test tools need to possess capabilities that will allow them to handle patch releases in the test software without having to change the process.
It is important for test tools to track productivity and quality metrics at granular levels so that testing groups can be monitored accurately at all phases. The tools need to be capable of automatic test execution scheduling without having to depend on the team resources to start the test process for a module.
Another important characteristic of the testing tools is to provide for adequate test documentation capabilities. These features must ensure that test process is documented every time a module is tested and released for the next development phase. Also, test documents for completed projects must be safely archived so that they can be retrieved whenever required.
Testing tools must be able to support the regular test process which includes the main activity of building test plans and creating test cases or scripts. The testing tools must be capable of integrating with existing or new test tools that that are introduced into the testing environment.
To overcome all the testing challenges within the project it is best to use test automation tools that can handle all testing activities efficiently. There are many robust tools that are available in the market that handle multiple test projects and also different project releases and iterations simultaneously.
Implementing a good test automation tool for the benefit of the testing services of the organization can enhance productivity and reduce many testing overhead costs that are accrued due to inefficient handling of the test process.
