Did you know that the human body is over 50 percent water? That’s right – the largest portion of you is good old H2O. It may not be the sparkling clear, cool liquid you see in Banderas Bay (it’s unlikely the sun has ever danced off of you in just that way), but still, it makes you think. As you gently bob around in the pool of your villa rental Puerto Vallarta, you’re floating in the very stuff you’re made of.

Water everywhere
In fact, as you travel around Puerto Vallarta, it seems that water is everywhere. Let’s start with the bay: it’s deep and clean and cool. Each year, you’re likely to see a number of marine mammals, including humpback whales and dolphins, passing through. A number of fresh-water rivers empty into the bay, including the Rio Cuale, which cuts right through Puerto Vallarta, and the Mascota River.

And let’s not forget the hundreds of clear water swimming pools and hot tubs that grace the patio of nearly every villa rental Puerto Vallarta – these inviting cement ponds hold gallons upon gallons of water. And that’s the point (you knew there had to be a point, right?). While you probably see some kind of water in every direction you look, it’s actually a more scarce resource than you might think.

Mexico’s scarce resource
In many parts of Mexico, local and federal officials struggle to maintain a usable water supply, both for today and for the future. As is the case in so many parts of the globe, water resources are growing increasingly scarce and, as a result, increasingly valuable. So even though you’re enjoying a luxurious stay in a beautiful setting, be mindful about the water you’re using.

  • Don’t let the faucet run when you’re brushing your teeth or washing up. It’s pretty easy to turn that tap on and off.

  • Check to make sure the taps in the villa are turned all the way off – those little drips can be big water wasters.

  • If the pool and spa at your villa rental Puerto Vallarta have covers, put them back when you get out of the water. You’ll reduce the amount of water lost to evaporation.

  • Take a shorter shower – you can’t be that dirty, and you can save gallons of water if you bathe thoughtfully.

It just makes sense to treat the local environment gently, like it’s your own home. After all, you want to come back to the same lovely place again and again.
