San Francisco has many sightseeing places that interest every tourist who visits it. It has many attractions, including the Golden Gate Bridge, the Golden Gate Park and the Exploratorium, which is a museum which houses the exhibits related to science, art and human perception. There are as many as 650 exhibits which say ‘please touch’. There are many lakes, gardens and walking paths in San Francisco. There is also the ferry ride. The Fisherman’s Wharf is also a great attraction. The cable cars, the many famous streets, the eateries and the whole ambience make a tour to San Francisco memorable.

One of the famous places in San Francisco is the China Town. The entrance has a dragon draped archway, which is at the intersection of Bush and Grant streets. It has been a great attraction for tourists. It is definitely worth visiting because of the different cultural atmosphere prevailing there.

The Grant Avenue runs for eight blocks and is a very old and popular street. If you stroll along China town one evening you will see many open markets on Stockton Street. These open markets sell many things that are very attractive to the general public. Some of the things sold are Chinese artifacts, statues and leather goods.

The other famous area is the Portsmouth Square. There is a pedestrian bridge on Kearney Street which takes you to the Chinese Cultural Center, which is a museum. You also have the Chinese Historical Society in China Town which gives you an idea of the customs and practices of the Chinese.

The best way to travel around San Francisco is not by car, as parking is difficult and expensive. Cable cars are very convenient and an easy way to travel to China Town and will come up to Grant Street.

After having toured through Chinatown and buying all the quaint Chinese articles, one is bound to get very hungry. China Town is famous for its many eateries. You can visit all the places and end up having dinner at one of them. ‘House of Nanking’ is a popular restaurant, which is located at the corner of Kearney and Washington. The smell of vegetables being stir fried and the aroma of food is too tempting to resist. Another restaurant is the ‘Pot Sticker’, which is located at 150 Waverly Place. Here you can get Hunan, Szechwan and Mandarin style of dumplings.

The thing that cannot be missed is the Fortune Cookie. The Golden Gate Fortune Cookie factory is located in China town on Ross Alley. Each fortune cookie is handmade and is generally eaten in the afternoon.

Chinatown has been a great tourist attraction with many tourists interested in taking the feel of the place and enjoying the ethnic atmosphere. The various streets with its quaint shops and the aroma of food, is enough to make a tourist happy.

There are some times of the year when certain festivals are celebrated in Chinatown. Some of them are the Chinese New Year, the Dragon Boat festival (when about a hundred boats which have the dragon theme, take part in races) and the Autumn Moon festival which is also referred to as the Chinese Thanksgiving.

With so much to do and see, Chinatown figures high in the list of tourist spots in San Francisco and an evening spent there amidst the sound and smell of the Chinese culture will make it indeed a memorable one.
