Aye, aye, matey! Talk Like a Pirate Day be comin'. Be ye ready? September 19 each year is Talk Like a Pirate Day, and there are just a few days to come this year. Let’s turn back time a little and take a quick look on the origin of the day. The day was created in 1995 by John Baur and Mark Summers. By accident, the day is a result of a sports injury. During a racquetball game, one of them reacted to the pain with an outburst of "Aaarrr!", and the idea was born. They proclaimed September 19 each year as the day when everyone should talk like a pirate. They chose Summers' ex-wife's birthday for the day as it would be easy for them to remember. The day gained exposure when, in 2002, they sent a letter about their invented day to the American syndicated humor columnist, Dave Barry, who liked the idea and promoted it. Then growing media coverage of the day has ensured it is celebrated internationally.

What do people do on the day? People, especially pirate enthusiasts, often gather together and hold parties or other activities on the fun day. They dress like pirates and compare tips on pirate costume creation. They try to act and talk like pirates, and sing loud pirate songs together, etc. To me and my friends, also being pirate enthusiasts, we do it in a more special way: celebrating the mighty day online.
