Are your custom labels being ignored? Is your money in label printing going to waste? Do you think your labels look boring or mundane in people's eyes? Well, there are several reasons why your custom labels are being ignored. Do not worry, these is a remedy to each of these reasons. We'll deal with these reasons and remedies point for point in this article. With a little luck it may help you produce better and more noticeable custom labels in the future.
1. Lack of noticeable color – The common problem when your labels are being ignored is the color. The lack of noticeable color, distinct from the label's environment will usually be the cause why people do not see them immediately. For example, if the labels are usually found in a jungle of paper work with different colors and paper types, a simple label in white or in block colors will not do. You will need a special color that is not usually found in the environment for it to be noticeable.
So if your labels are in a sea of white and yellow paper work, you might want to print color labels in green, blue or bright red for people to take notice. You can apply this method to other environments as well. As long as the color of the label is totally different from the environment, your color labels should be quite noticeable.
2. Hard to read text – Another problem that your labels may have is its text. If people cannot read the label's text from a far distance, then people's perceptions will hardly register it. It will just be a blur in the environment that won't really merit any attention. To remedy this, it is usually recommended that you print your label text in large and bold letters which can be seen from a far. Size 24Pt to size 72pt text will usually be fine for color labels. Having text at this size should make it quite noticeable.
3. Uninteresting/Irrelevant label message – Besides the size of the text, the very message of the text can also be a problem area that can lead people to ignore labels. If you do not print a message that grabs attention immediately such as phrases like “Danger”, “Important” or “Read Immediately”, then you may loose readers at the crucial five seconds for labels to attract readers. Bad label messages include phrases like “Look here” or “Notice”. These words lack the power and sense of immediacy that a proper label should have. So make sure you avoid this from happening by thinking of very powerful and alarming label messages that people will immediately respond to.
4. Absence of images – Another big mistake that can lead to people ignoring your labels is the absence of images. You may think that images and symbols are not very useful for labels which are usually just text. However, the truth is, images are better at conveying messages than a few lines of text. As the saying goes, a picture will paint a thousand words and if you use the right image you can usually get your message across quickly without even writing a single word.
5. Lack of quality materials – Finally, labels are often ignored especially if you see them deteriorating. If you printed your labels in low quality materials these labels will easily be damaged. Damaged labels will of course usually look old and untrustworthy so most people will ignore it since it looks as such. Of course the simple solution to this is to invest in more high quality materials in label printing to make them look better for a longer time.
Great! Hopefully that should enlighten you on where your label printing is failing and how to remedy it. In time, no one will be able to ignore your custom labels. Good Luck!
