Your wedding centerpieces are an integral feature of your reception décor and will help to unify the whole look and style of your wedding. Your choice of centerpieces will affect your choice of linens, the size of your tables and even the number of guests you seat to each table.

Depending on the style of your centerpieces you may choose to make your own or get your florist to do them for you. If you do ask someone else to make them up for you it is important that you discuss with them first exactly what you want and what options are available to you.

When you get around thinking about your table centerpieces here are a few important factors to bear in mind:

Consider the size of your centerpieces and how big they should be in relation to the tables available. If they are too big then your guests will not be able to see each other, let alone converse with each other. If they are too small they will look insignificant and be overlooked. Also bear in mind the other items you will need to have on the tables, such as crockery, cutlery, glassware, chinaware, table linens, wedding favors and any other decorations. If your centerpieces are slightly too big then the table will look crowded and your guests will find the space cramped.

Think about the height of your centerpieces as well. As I said above if they are too big height wise your guests will not be able to interact with each other because of it. However, tall, thin centerpieces such as candles are ok, but tall and wide floral arrangements will likely overwhelm the whole table.

Of course your budget will be the key to the design of your centerpieces so it is important that you set a realistic budget first. Some centerpieces can be very extravagant and will cost a fortune to produce for every table. But some of the best centerpieces are those that a are simple and easy to put together. It really is a personal choice as to what you go for and how much you spend.

If your budget is tight you could combine your centerpieces with your wedding favors. Collect together some decorative bowls, plates or vases and fill them with your wedding favors. Your guests can then help themselves.

Wedding centerpiece ideas:

Floral arrangements are the most popular and are usually low arrangements so that guests can see and talk to each other over the top of them. Floral arrangements also allow for designs in both traditional and contemporary options. Simple low arrangements are very easy to make yourself at home, however if your want something more flamboyant and are not particularly creative with flowers I would suggest asking your florist to make them for you.

A tabletop fountain which works on batteries is a great centerpiece and works particularly well with an Asian themed wedding. You can also surround it with votive candles which your guests could take home afterwards.

If you can find some decorative glass bowls, try filling them with rose petals and floating candles for a romantic centerpiece. Scented candles are also a good idea for adding to the atmosphere.

When it comes to centerpieces there is a wealth of options available to you. All you need is a bit of creative imagination and you will come up with something unique and beautiful. They are an important feature of your reception tables and are worth spending some time and thought on.
