The satellite phone service is a satellite system that allows calls to be made and received anywhere in the world.

If you choose to live or travel in areas outside cellular coverage or in areas with inadequate landline service, a satellite phone is for you. A satellite phone is providing coverage in all ocean areas, air routes and all landmasses. It offers a communications solution that is independent of location, and wouldn't cut out, as it happens to our cell phones regularly.

If you are travelling to areas where there is little or no cellular coverage, you could choose a satellite system that allows calls to be made and received anywhere in the world.

If you are travelling to areas where there is little or no cellular coverage, you can rent a satellite phone. Few satellite phones use satellites in geostationary orbit. They can maintain near-continuous global coverage with more or less three or four satellites, consequently reducing the launch costs. Inmarsat is the major satellite system in civilian use. One disadvantage of geostationary satellite systems might be the necessity of a large antenna system, required for signal transmission and reception.

Geostationary satellite data relays satellite data from partner organisations. Part of a wider international cooperation, the geostationary satellite data from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, Japan Meteorological Agency and the India Meteorological Department are made available via on the Internet.

One serious problem of satellite phones is that the handheld units need a clear view of the sky. Other wise it will not work inside buildings, cars or boats, regardless of where they are made out to work in Television. External antennas are required for these uses.

The most common type of satellite phone is the type of satellite where it is over the same point of Earth always. It moves around the Earth at the same angular speed that the Earth rotates on its axis.

The satellite phone was used in movies, such as Jurassic Park III and on the show Relic Hunter. The satellite phones are also used by the criminals as they are difficult to trace.

People who travel internationally find satellite phones are often more reliable than cell phones and even landlines.
